Atheism The word "atheism" is derived from 'a', meaning 'not', and 'theos', meaning 'god'. In other words, atheism is for people who believe there is no god of any kind. But there's no explanation for how the primitive life-forms got here. For no reason at all, the world came into existence, and eventually so did we. That's about all we can say. All people are simply by-products of a cosmic accident, and so the most logical way to approach life is to look out for number 1, and preserve self at all costs...not surprisingly, this is basically the unwritten credo of modern society.
