Christianity
The word "Christianity" is taken from the followers of Jesus Christ: Christians. In other words, Christianity is for people who believe that Jesus, the Son of God, is the only way to find God.

Below are some of the fundamentals of Christianity.

Christianity: How Did We Get Here?
God created the universe, this world and everything on it in 5 days. On the 6th day after He began, He created humans. He could have created everything in a split second, and He could have taken 6 trillion years, but He chose to do it in 6 days. Each species of animal did not evolve from lower life-forms, but was created separately, to show God's incredible "creativity". After He created humans, He noted that it was "very good".

Christianity: What is the Purpose of Life?
Life finds meaning and purpose in a fulfilled relationship with the One who created us, God. To the extent that we're not in a fulfilled relationship with God, our lives lose purpose and focus. God did not create humans because He needed to. He created them because He wanted to; He wants us to know Him. And knowing Him means much more than knowing about Him. It means an increasing trust relationship, built over time, which can weather any storm.

Christianity: Who/What is God?
God is the three-person-in-one-being, often called the Trinity. Christians don't make up information about God; they find what He is like from the pages of the Bible. The three persons who are each God, but each distinct from the other, are God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. No-one has ever seen God the Father or God the Holy Spirit, but many people have seen God the Son, while Jesus lived on earth in the Middle East. The Bible tells us that if we want to see what God is like, we'll find out by looking at what Jesus is like. Here are a few character traits of Jesus:

  • compassionate towards people
  • forgives people of their sin
  • angry at hypocrisy and injustice
  • power to control the elements of nature
  • genuinely concerned with 'outsiders'
  • concerned about every person individually
  • leads by serving others
  • the only way to find God

Christianity: Who Are Humans?
Human beings are unique creations of God. No-one is ever an accident in God's eyes. Everyone is born with the potential to live either a productive or a destructive life. This is why we see the Adolf Hitlers and the Mother Teresas. Most people are not at these extremes, and struggle to varying degrees with desires to do good as well as to do evil. Men and women are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, and are NOT the accidental by-product of evolutionary chance. Every person has the opportunity to have a relationship with God.

Christianity: What is Sin?
Sin, at its core, is the pride of believing we don't need God. Pretty much every individual 'sin' we could think of stems from this. Humans are born with an inclination to sin, which separates us from God. Sin is the one and only thing which keeps us from having a relationship with God. As soon as sin is dealt with in a person's life, that person is free from the power of sin, and is able to fully enjoy life.

Christianity: How Do You Explain Pain and Suffering?
Pain and suffering are the result of sin being present in this world. Put simply, if there were no sin, there would be no pain and no suffering. God is not the cause of suffering, but nothing takes place which God doesn't know about. One writer said that pain was God's megaphone to a deaf world. In other words, pain wasn't part of the plan, but God will use it to get through to people who otherwise would not be interested in Him.

Christianity: Has God Communicated with Us? How?
Yes. God has communicated with us through His Word, the Bible. The Bible contains the Old and New Testaments. The word "testament" simply means "covenant" or "agreement". The Old Testament records the history of creation up until the time that Jesus lived on earth. God spoke through prophets in the Old Testament, and their words are recorded here. The New Testament records the time Jesus was on earth until about 30 years after He left. Both testaments make up the Bible. God has revealed an incredible amount of detail about Himself throughout the pages of the Bible. Ultimately, the best communication we have from God is Jesus. Jesus is "God's revelation to us".

Christianity: How Do You Find God?
You search for Him. God has promised that if a person searches for Him with all they have, they will find Him. God isn't in the business of playing hard-to-get. In fact, God has made it incredibly simple to find Him. There is only one way to God. This takes away the uncertainty of wondering which road will lead to God. The one way to find God is Jesus. When a person finds Jesus, they've found God. If you're interested in finding God, you may want to go here.

Christianity: What Happens When You Die?
Here's what does NOT happen when a person dies: they are not reincarnated, they are not annihilated, they do not automatically go to heaven. What happens when a person dies depends on one thing only: whether the person was in a relationship with God. Anyone who is in a relationship with God, through the free gift of Jesus, goes to be with God when they die. This is a time of no more pain, suffering, regret, remorse, or guilt. Anyone who is not in a relationship with God has effectively chosen their own destiny. Since that person was not interested in a relationship with God on earth, God allows them to continue to be apart from him for the rest of eternity. The Bible calls this hell. Many unwarranted descriptions of hell have been built up over the years. While hell and heaven are for eternity, hell is primarily regret and remorse at missed opportunities, and the fact that there are no more "second chances". For those who trust in nothing but what Jesus has done for them on the cross, death and the afterlife hold no fear.
